Minor Eye Care Services (MECS)

If you have an emergency eye care issue and have a Wirral GP we are part of the MECS team on the Wirral who can see you. The MECS fee is funded by the NHS.

MECS appointments cover

• Red eyes / painful eyes
• Foreign body removals
• Flashes and floaters
• Any condition with your eyes that would, in previous years, have been seen by the eye hospital directly must now be seen by a MECS accredited optician in the first instance.

If you are registered with us please call the practice to discuss your problem with a member of our team on 0151 6453438.

If you registered with a different Wirral Opticians practice please call them in the first instance to find out if they are part of the MECS scheme.

If neither of these apply please call the local hub on 07922424502 and they will endeavour to find you an emergency appointment usually within 24-48 hours.

Please note we do not offer a walk in service for this type of appointment.

We offer private emergency appointments for those who don’t qualify for the NHS MECS Scheme.
